Elvis Herndl
Cello

Biography

Elvis Herndl was born in Austria in 2005. He has been in Thomas Platzgummer’s cello class at the Johann-Joseph-Fux Conservatory since he was four years old. Since 2018, he has also been in the gifted class with Andrea Molnár at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. 

He attended master classes and lessons with Rudolf Leopold, David Geringas, Tamás Varga, Peter Somodari, Jörg Widmann, Julian Arp and Johannes Krebs. He is also a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and regularly takes part in the intensive weeks and activities of the academy.

Elvis is a multiple prize winner of “Prima la Musica”, where he received the 1st prize with distinction in Group IIIPlus in 2022. He has won further prizes at national and international competitions, such as 2nd prizes at the “Liezen Cello Competition” (Austria) and at the “Anna Kull International Cello Competition” (Austria), the audience prize at the ORF Gala at the “Golden Note” cello competition of the International Music Association for gifted children, the 3rd prize at the “International Janigro Cello Competition” (Croatia), the 2nd prize and the special prize “Best Dotzauer Interpreter” at the “International Dotzauer Competition for Young Cellists” (Germany), 1st prizes at the “Heranova Cello Competition” (Czech Republic), the “Vichytil Cello Competition” (Czech Republic), the “Euterpe International Music Competition” (Italy), the “International Competition Giovani Musicisti - Città di Treviso” (Italy), the “Ars Nova International Music Competition Trieste - Paolo Spincich Award” (Italy), the “Musica Goritiensis International Competition for Young Musicians” (Italy), the “Svirel International Music Competition CelloBello” (Slovenia) and the 2nd prize at the “International Cello Competition David Popper for Young Cellists” (Hungary). 

Invitations to the Kronberg Academy in Germany and the Hirschmann Foundation in Switzerland followed, where, among other things, he performed his own composition. 

In a duo with his brother Lysander (double bass) and as a member of the JEM trio, Elvis was a prizewinner in several competitions, a finalist in the “Golden Note” in Vienna and has performed in the Mozarteum, the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Berlin Philharmonic, among others. 

As a soloist with orchestra, Elvis performed Joseph Haydn's Concerto in C major, Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations and Piatti's Serenade for Two Cellos. 

Elvis received grants from the City of Graz, the Friends of the KUG, the gifted support program of the JJF Conservatory, the Kiwanis Club and the IMF Music Promotion Prize.
