Biography
Álvaro Lozano Cames was born in Spain in 2006 and began playing the cello at the age of eight with Prof. Carmen María Elena González and Sabrina Rui. In addition, since 2020, he receives regular lessons from Prof. Pavel Gomziakov at A.E.O. Barenboim-Said, Seville. Since 2023, he has been studying at the Reina Sofía High School of Music with Professor Jens Peter Maintz.
Álvaro has participated in masterclasses with Ivan Monighetti, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Frans Helmerson, Asier Polo, Mischa Maisky, Lluis Claret, Pablo Ferrández, Kian Soltani, Steven Isserlis, Denis Severin, Johannes Moser, Jean-Guihen Queyras, Kyril Zlotnikov, Sebastian Klinger, Suzana Stefanovic, Sung-Won Yang, Fernando Arias, María de Macedo, Mikolaj Konopelski, Miguel Jiménez, María Casado, Guillermo Pastrana and Marco Scano, among others. He receives a scholarship from the Music Academy Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive music weeks and activities held there.

Álvaro won several prizes in national and international competitions including the 1st prize and the “UZMAH Special Prize” at the “12th International Cello Competition Antonio Janigro” for young cellists (Croatia). He won other 1st prizes at the “Peregrinos Musicales Competition”, the “Intercentros Melómano Soloists Competition”, the “III Gustav Mahler Prize Cello Competition”, the “Competition for Young Musicians Joaquín Villatoro” (Spain), the “III International Cello Competition Luthiers Clar” (Spain), the “Jaime Dobato Benavente National Cello Competition for Young Promises” (Spain) and the “Cello Competition Fundación Cello León”. Furthermore, he won the 3rd prize at the “8th International Dotzauer Competition for Young Cellists”, the “David Popper IX International Cello Competition” (Hungary), the 3rdprize and the “Special Prize Summer Camp Music and Culture of the Reina Sofia Music School” at the “Ciudad de Estepona Young Musicians Competition”. He also received high recognition such as the “Jury and Audience Award” at the Forum Musikae (2019 and 2020, Spain) and the 1st prize at the “Verao Clássico Academy Awards”, Portugal.
Álvaro has performed recitals in several festivals such as the 42 Festival of Segovia and the 2nd Festival Cello León (Spain), and as a soloist he has played with the Galicia Real Filharmonia Orchestra, the RTVE Orchestra, the Camerata Gala and the Madrid European Youth Orchestra. In 2024, he will performe as a soloist with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga.
