Biography

Born in 2005 in Moscow, Dmitry Ishkhanov demonstrated an interest in music yet at the age of four when he started playing the piano with his babysitter. From his first piano teacher being Lolita Poghosyan, Dmitry never stops improving himself and steadily walks to his big dream. Starting from 2014 and up to 2020, Dmitry had been studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with professors Nina Tichman and Gesa Lücker. Parallel to his musical endeavors he graduated high school passing the International Baccalaureate program and fluently speaks English, German, Russian and Spanish languages. Dmitry is currently studying at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria, with Prof. Pavel Gililov.

He’s a scholarship holder of the International Music Academy in Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks and activities held there.

Though the young age, Dmitry has managed to be a participant and a prize winner of many prestigious competitions, such as the “International Piano Competition Golden Key” in Germany, the “Münchner Klavierpodium der Jugend” in Germany, “Jugend Musiziert” in Germany (1st prize), the “XXV Young Musicians International Competition FLAME” in France, the “Euregio Piano Award”, the “International Piano Competition” in Germany, the “International César-Franck Competition” in Belgium and the “Pozzolino 3rd International Competition for Young Pianists” in Italy. In the latter, he won the 1st absolute prize and the Grand Prix in the category up to 19 years. 

Among his biggest accomplishments, at the age of 14, Dmitry has debuted at Carnegie Hall Stern Auditorium, performing Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and conductor Miran Vaupotic. Furthermore, in 2016, he represented Malta at the Eurovision of Young Musicians held in Cologne, Germany, and became the youngest finalist in the Eurovision history.

Dmitry is very active in performing with various orchestras, such as the WDR Orchestra in the Cologne Philharmonic, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, the New Chamber Orchestra of Potsdam, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bursa Symphony Orchestra (Turkey), the Eurasian Symphony Orchestra (Kazakhstan), the Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra (Russia), the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, the Sinfonia Rotterdam Orchestra and the Savaria Symphonic Orchestra. He played at prestigious concerts halls, at the Kennedy Centre (Washington), the Cologne Philharmonic, the Smetana Hall (Prague), the Beethoven House (Bonn, Germany), the Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Mozarteum Grosser Saal in Salzburg and the Weill Recital Hall in New York, among many others. 

He released his first CD "Virtuoso" in October of 2021 with Parma Recordings playing a program by Chopin.
