Biography
Juan Pozas was born in Spain in 2003. He began taking cello lessons at the age of six with Miriam Olmedilla (CEDAM). He later entered the Centro Integrado de Música Padre Antonio Soler in San Lorenzo de El Escorial, where he studied with Victoria Rodríguez, graduating with a special prize. Simultaneously, he obtained valuable additional impulses from Maria de Macedo, Suzana Stefanovic and Fernando Arias. Since 2021 he studies at the “Real Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid” with professor Fernando Arias.
Juan took part in masterclasses and courses with Valentin Radutiu, László Fenyö, Marc Coppey, Asier Polo, Paolo Bonomini, Norbert Anger, Alban Gerhardt, Gregor Horsch, Mischa Maisky, Michal Dmochowski, Beatriz Blanco, Alexandre Foster, Alexander Ramm, Santiago Cañón and Amit Peled, among others. He’s a scholarship holder of the Music Academy of Liechtenstein and takes part in the intensive weeks and activities offered by the academy.

Juan has been awarded 1st prizes in several competitions, including the “XIII International Cello Competition Jan Vychytil”, where he also received the “overall winner prize” in Prague in 2019, the “XXX International Competition FLAME” in Paris in 2019 and the “IX Concurso de Corda Cidade de Vigo” in Spain in 2020. In 2022, he reached the final of the “8th International Dotzauer Competition for Young Cellist” in Dresden. He has also won 3rd prizes at the “VI Concurso Nacional de Violonchelo Jaime Dobato Benavente” in Spain in 2015 and at the “VII North International Music Competition” 2021.
From 2015 to 2019, Juan has been a member of the Camerata Infantil Fundación BBVA-Orcam, with which he has frequently performed at the Auditorio Nacional. He has also played in venues such as the Fundación Juan March, the Museo del Prado and the Museo del Romanticismo.
As a solist, Juan has recently performed Schumann’s Cello Concerto at the Teatro Monumental with the Orquesta Sinfónica del RCSMM.
