Biography
Lyam Chenaux was born in Switzerland in 2009. From an early age, he chose to play the cello. Since 2021, Lyam has been studying with Denis Severin at the Haute Ecole de Genève-Neuchâtel in Switzerland.
A fan of concerts and sharing with the public, he took part in numerous concerts in Switzerland and abroad from the age of 8. At the age of 10, he performed for the first time as a soloist with the Budweis Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of David Svec.
He has played as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the UniArt Orchestra in Paris, Pforzeim Kammerorchester, Ponticello, Quatuor Debussy, Neue Philharmonie Hambourg, Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (J. Kovacs), EAMT, Orchestre Musique des Lumières, Neues Orchester Basel.
Lyam won 4x of the Concours Suisse des Jeunesses Musicales in all categories (solo, early music, composition and trio). He has won dozens of international competitions and special prizes, including Classicalia finals in Vienna in 2023, and the “International Cello Competition ‘David Popper’ for young cellists” in Hungary.
In 2025, Lyam won 1 prize and specials prizes at Young Tallinn Musician, David Geringas International Competition and a special prize at Lions European cello competition finales in Dublin (2025).
He won the TV show PRODIGES France TV (jury G. Capuçon), season 12 in 2026, and signed for his first album by Warner Classics.
Lyam joined the LGT Young Soloists virtuoso ensemble at the age of 12 (dir. A. Gilman) and made his debut on major international stages (Singapore, Dubai, Austria, Germany, Australia, Norway, South America).
Lyam has taken part in masterclasses with G. Sollima, F. Helmerson, T. Svane, T. Grossenbacher, R. Laszlo, R. Suma, B. Cheng, JP. Maintz, D. Pia, O. Gaillard, M. Perény, J. Knight, S. Klinger, WS. Yang, X. Phillips, A. Polo, L. Cottet, S. Rybicki Varga, T. Demenga, A. Gastinel, F. Favre (jazz).
Lyam Chenaux plays a cello built by Antonio Guadagnini in Turin in 1881. The loan of this instrument was made possible thanks to the cultural and philanthropic initiative “Adopt a Musician” promoted and sponsored by
MusicMasterpieces SA – Lugano (Switzerland).
Lyam goes to gymnasium 2 years early and benefits from a tailor-made private school program. In addition to music, he enjoys cycling, watches, chess, political science and motor sports.
Since february 2025, Lyam is a scholarship holder of the Music Academy in Liechtenstein and is participating in the intensive weeks and activities of the Academy.
