Biography

Lenz Defregger has been studying since 2024 with Prof. Clemens Hagen at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. His playing was described in Cremona Sera by Angela Alessi as “shimmeringly virtuosic” and as “captivating [...] and assured [...]”. He was a student of Barbara Lübke-Herzl in the Mozarteum pre-college program and subsequently continued his bachelor’s studies with Prof. Matthias Bartolomey.  He also received important musical impulses from Prof. Wen-Sinn Yang, Prof. Thomas Riebl, Prof. Cibrán Sierra Vázquez, Prof. László Fenyö, and Prof. Klara Flieder-Pantillon. In 2022, he won first prize at the “Concorso Mainardi”. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has already performed internationally. He appeared as a soloist with the ensemble “Bella Musica Mozarteum” and served as principal cellist of the “Mozarteum Symphony Orchestra”, the “Matrix Orchestra”, the “Kammerorchester Weilheim”, the “Chamber Orchestra of the Institute for Chamber Music” at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, and the “Salzburg Youth Symphony Orchestra”.  In 2025, Lenz Defregger was a member of the orchestra “Spira Mirabilis”, through which he had the opportunity to collaborate with the renowned musicologist Clive Brown.  He has participated multiple times in “Jugend musiziert”, achieving success up to the national level. In the chamber music field, Lenz Defregger has worked with distinguished musicians such as Prof. Lukas Hagen, Prof. Matthias Bartolomey, Prof. Are Sandbakken, Leonhard Roczek, Florian Eggner, and Michaela Girardi-Riegler. In addition, he has performed under conductors including Ion Marin and Emmanuel Tjeknavorian in prestigious venues such as the Vienna Konzerthaus and the “Haus für Mozart” in Salzburg.  In 2018, he founded the “duo molede” together with his brother, with which he regularly performs internationally and writes his own music.
