Biography
Leonhard Baumgartner was born in Austria in 2007. His studies took him to Regina Brandstätter at the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts KUG in 2019, and he later intensified his studies since 2022 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna mdw with Dora Schwarzberg. He also received further training from Ingolf Turban as a young student at the Munich University of Music and Theater HMTM. He also attends the 11th grade at the Vienna Music High School.
Masterclasses took him to Ana Chumachenco, David Frühwirth, Yair Kless, Paul Roczek, Kirill Troussov and Pavel Vernikov. He is a scholarship holder at the Music Academy in Liechtenstein and regularly takes part in the intensive weeks and activities that take place there.

Leonhard won numerous prizes at national and international competitions, including the 1st prize at the renowned “Zhuhai International Mozart Competition”, the “Discovery Award” at the “International Classical Music Awards – ICMA 2023”, the “London Young Musician – Violinist of the Year 2023 Award" as well as the 2nd prize at "Il Piccolo Violino Magico 2021". Since 2014, he has received 1st prizes with distinction at "Prima la Musica", the special prize from the "ESTA" in 2018, was the state and federal winner in 2022 with the highest number of points the “Manfred Grommek Special Prize” from the Kronberg Academy, he won the “Carl Flesch Prize” from the Carl Flesch Academy 2023 and the “Zoltan Kodaly Prize” from the ISA mdw 2023.
Leonhard has appeared frequently as a soloist, including with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the NFM Philharmonic Wrozlaw, the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra, the Tyrolean Chamber Orchestra and the Ensemble Esperanza.
He regularly receives invitations to international festivals and concert series.
In December 2023, the CD Kreisler's Erben will be released by Gramola, on which Leonhard took part alongside Benjamin Schmid and Christian Altenburger.
Leonhard plays an important violin by J.B. Vuillaume, Paris 1854, generously loaned by a member of the Stretton Society.
