Biography
Hugo Svedberg, born 2008 in London, began his cello studies aged 6 and currently has lessons with Adrian Brendel.
In 2024, Hugo won Sweden’s Pole Star Award, performing as soloist with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. He later went on to represent Sweden at Eurovision Young Musicians, where he was awarded Second Prize following a live televised performance with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.
Hugo has performed as soloist with orchestras including the Swedish Radio Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Västerås Sinfonietta, Jönköpings Sinfonietta, Musica Vitae, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the London Mozart Players and the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock.

He has taken part in festivals including the Festspiele Mecklenburg Vorpommern, the Baltic Sea Festival, Change Festival, Festspillene I Bergen and the Gstaad Festival Academy. As a chamber musician, he has performed with artists including Rainer Schmidt, Lawrence Power and Gautier Capuçon. His recitals as part of BBC Young Musician 2024 have been broadcast on BBC4 television and BBC Radio 3.
Hugo is part of the Voksenåsen Talent Program and he is an EMCY artist as part of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth. He is a scholarship holder of the Music Academy in Liechtenstein and participates in the intensive week and activities of the Academy.
Hugo has taken part in masterclasses with cellists including Jens Peter Maintz, Ivan Monighetti, Torlief Thedéen, Maximilian Hornung, Johannes Moser and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt. He is mentored by Kian Soltani through the Stretton Excellence Mentorship Programme.
He plays a cello by J.B Vuillaume, a generous loan by a member of the Stretton Society.
